After all that I have been through regarding my health, I came across a Beauty Contest Fab Over 40. I’m 58 years old and I’ve had 3 kidney transplants so I decided to go for it.

Today is my mom’s birthday and I’m wishing her a happy heavenly birthday. She was a fun loving, unselfish, kind-hearted person. Of course she had flaws but don’t we all. She was good to everyone, sometimes I was jealous of that because I wanted her all to myself. She was there for people and did not look for credit or applause for her deeds. v
I had a friend that was graduating from high school one year before me and she told me that no one was coming. She became close with my mother and I explained her situation. My mom got dressed up, bought balloons and was the loudest one at her graduation. She did lots of things like that. The last 3 nights I have had dreams about my mom, I consider myself lucky. “A mother is your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend.” anonymous
A mother can be anyone that gives you unconditional love. Whose yours?
I was restless the other night and woke up at 2:15 am with a thought: “Forever is today, tomorrow is not promised.” Last year my family experienced the unexpected loss of my niece. I couldn’t imagine the pain my sister experienced; the loss of a child is the worst thing a parent could endure. It brought us closer.
There has also been an increase in the death of classmates. Death is a reality for everyone, making you question your mortality. I have been close to death due to complications from a surgical procedure. Tomorrow is not promised, so live your life today. Tell and show your loved ones and friends how much they mean to you. My Aunt Delores once said to me, “Love is an action.”
Teaching is gratifying when you are passionate about the profession, patient, and know why you’re doing it, and rewarding when your student absorbs the information. It should make you happy because you’re impacting someone’s life. In life learning and teaching are cyclical and are applicable to every profession.
My nephrologist is one of the best teachers I know; you can feel his passion for teaching. I’ve been his patient for over 15 years. He asks my permission with every visit to have students accompany him. I never mind it because they are learning from a great teacher. I had a visit this week and I’m usually his last patient. He said, “Buddy would you mind if I brought some students in with me?” My answer is always yes. A parade of students came in, a medical student, a nurse practitioner, a physician’s assistant, and a nephrology fellow. They listened to my heart, lungs, and felt my transplanted kidney. They were briefed about my medical history. I miss working with the camaraderie of working bedside nursing. There’s so much learning that occurs with a multidisciplinary team approach.

Kidney Health For All Preparing For The Unexpected, Supporting The Vulnerable
Kidney disease is called a ‘silent disease’ as there are often few or no symptoms. In fact, you can lose up to 90 per cent of your kidneys’ functionality before experiencing any symptoms. My symptoms started in 1994 and I was managed for 10 years with over multiple medications to control my blood pressure, anemia, and kidney function. Pay attention to your body. L.Myers MSN RNC
March 9th is World Kidney Day. The colors of this year’s theme represents the blood (red), excess water (blue), and (urine yellow) that our kidneys filter, clean and eliminate.
